So you have decided to install epoxy flooring in your garage to give it a new look. You already have in mind the color you wish to have your garage floor epoxy coated. It is now time to pick the right contractor for the job. How to choose an epoxy company in Orlando?

Choosing the right epoxy contractor is the most important aspect of your epoxy flooring project. Your choice of epoxy contractor will directly affect the functionality, design and overall appearance of your epoxy flooring.

Epoxy is a material made from resins and hardeners that create an adhesive bond when both agents chemically react with each other. When properly applied over the concrete surface it creates beautiful and durable flooring that is resistant to scratches, dust, dirt, grime, chemical staining as well as impact and abrasion.

Going about how to choose an epoxy company in Orlando requires a lot of diligence. You need to know what to look for in an epoxy contractor to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Here is a guide on how you should go about with the selection process.

Know What You Want

Know the type of epoxy flooring you want by doing some research. Determine if what you want is a solid-colored epoxy floor or one with a customized color. Do you want to add some chips or flakes? Perhaps you might like to add in some anti-slip additives.

Check the Flooring Options Offered

Make a list of epoxy companies that offer the type of epoxy coating you desire. If you are going to be working with an existing concrete surface, it would be good at this point to ask if they do work on existing concrete surface. Some epoxy companies may only be willing to work on newly-poured concrete as this requires minimal surface preparation.

Know the Brand of Epoxy to be Used

Epoxy materials are available in various brands. The epoxy or stained concrete contractor you choose should be confident about the brand he uses. The epoxy contractor should be able to inform you of the thickness of each coating and the solid content of the product.

Reliable epoxy companies often work alongside manufacturers of the best epoxy products and even use the brand as one of their selling points.

Ask about Warranties

A reliable and trustworthy epoxy company will always provide a warranty for their job. Warranties should cover the epoxy materials used as well as the workmanship.

Check for Licenses, Bonds and Insurance

A license to operate a business is always a must. You do not want to entrust your flooring project to a fly-by-night company. Ask for a copy of their license or license number and check the internet to check if such license is valid in your state.

It is also wise to check if they are bonded, have liability insurance and workers’ compensation. A bond will serve as your protection should the epoxy contractor fails to complete the job. Liability insurance will take care of any damage to your property while the job is ongoing.

Check on the Company’s Reputation

It is also important to check on the reputation of the epoxy company you plan to work with. You can do this by checking on the Consumer Protection Agency of your state. This agency has a website where you can check if there were unhappy customers who have filed actions against the epoxy company.

You can also check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to check on online reviews for the epoxy company in your state.

Make Sure There is a Written Contract

It is a must that the epoxy company provides you with a written contract specifying the scope of work to be done, the products to be used, the number of installers, when the job is going to be completed, cost of the project and warranty.

Check How Long the Company has been in Business

An epoxy company that has been in business for over 5 years is a good indication that it is a reputable company. This is not to say that you should not consider companies that have been in business for a shorter time especially when this company has been established by epoxy installers who have been on the job for many years.
Know Who Will Perform the Job

Some people think that this is something that does not need to be asked. Of course, the team of the company you are speaking with will do the job. However, there are instances when an epoxy company often hires sub-contractors. If they do hire sub-contractors, they will not be able to monitor the workmanship in the same way they could with their own epoxy installers.

Ask for References

Any reputable epoxy company will always be more than willing to provide you with references of their past jobs. As a matter of fact this can serve as one of their selling points because they are always proud of their past jobs.

Make Sure the Company is Easy to Contact

It is always best to work with an epoxy company with open lines of communication. This means that you should be able to easily reach them by phone or email. This is important especially when something goes wrong while the project is ongoing.

I want to make sue that my concrete floors get coated properly. It makes sense that I would want to get a specialist to help me out with this! I can see how trying to do it myself could just make things get done wrong.

Some individuals may mistake an epoxy garage floor finish for a coat of paint. Epoxy is a surface-coating thermosetting resin. When opposed to ordinary paint, the epoxy produces a stronger and thicker covering due to its curing process. As a result, epoxy is one of the most popular garage flooring options. If you want a garage floor coating that can withstand heavy traffic, lasts a long time, is slip-resistant, and looks excellent, you should go for epoxy instead of the usual garage floor coating options.

Thanks for pointing out that we need to check if the company is in the business for five years now. As you said, it is a good indication that they are a reputable one. I will definitely keep that in mind now that I need professionals for the epoxy flooring that I wanted for the garage, since it might be the best option to keep the surface from getting damaged due to having pickup trucks.

I agree that you should see if any actions were filed against the epoxy company. I need a driveway paved. I'll have to hire someone with a stellar reputation.

I appreciate that you suggested checking the reputation of then epoxy company before hiring them, and we can do that by checking the Consumer Protection Agency of our state. I will definitely do that now that I want a garage floor epoxy service for my new property that I moved into this month. It just needs to be protected from wear and tear, because I have two big vehicles that my partner and I use every day.
